Understanding Weight Loss Without the 'Science' Aspect

Wondering why some of us are obese and some of us are not?


Well, the reasons for being obese can be many, including family history, metabolism, adverse effects of medication or even some health disorder. But we should also know that obesity can set in at an early age of life due to bad eating habits. Obesity over long run can lead to many other chronic disorders such as diabetes and hypertension among others.

That leads to our next question - how can we maintain a healthy weight?


Personally, I feel that there is no short cut to weight loss. Its a tough ask to reduce even 2 kgs. Many literatures have linked reducing calorie intake to be a major route to weight loss, the other complimenting factor would be exercise such as yoga, zumba, aerobics etc., or any outdoor sport like cricket, foot ball, badminton, running etc.


Without going to much of science, the idea behind gradual weight loss is proven to be reduced calorie intake from your usual and burn little more calorie than your usual.


1. Watch your plate: instead of 3 chapatis, can you eat 2? Instead of coffee with sugar, can you drink sugarless coffee? These are some tough steps that reduces your calorie intake gradually.

2. Join an online yoga class. Well, you don't have to be expert or fear about those aasanas. Just try your best and you would be burning calories. It helps a great deal!

3. With lockdowns in place and work from home dynamics, things are getting worse. Have a check on your food habits. Make a dairy for every day food intake. Try avoid junk food - the closest friend of obesity.

4. If the above are getting very tough as your body is not used to such hard work, or if you are a person who doesn't have a free lifestyle allowing you to do these things - as a last resort, try high protein, low calorie ready-to-drink meal replacement powders (caution: meal replacement are to be sued for a short time like 2-3 months, beyond this they can be harmful).
